How are we already one month into the new year? Time is seriously flying by. I am a chronic list and note maker and was sitting here in my bed, late at night, making more lists of things to do. I started looking back at the past lists and “to do’s” I hadn’t completed yet. Guess which “to do’s” are on there the most frequently and never done. If you guessed working out, you are correct. And the number 2 undone task on my list; restart my blog. Why these two things are so important to me that I continually mentally commit to doing them but yet still neglected them; I may never understand. But here I am, trying yet again, another attempt to document my life on this here blog.
I have been reading a book; Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert. And while I did not agree with every point that she makes; I did find a few inspiring gems to help me seek after fulfilling my creative side. There are so many things that I want to do and get really close to doing them, but for some reason I hold myself back. A lot of times I think it is due to fear. And not even big fears; just fear of the unknown and what if it causes something to change.
My favorite quote from the book:
“Be brave. Without bravery, you will never know the world as richly as it longs to be known. Without bravery, your life will remain small – far smaller than you probably wanted your life to be”.
And its so true. By holding back so many doors are left unopened and opportunities are missed. I think along with dealing with our fears, when we deny ourselves the chance to pursue our hearts desires we lock a small part of ourselves away. As we chase the desires we develop more into who we want to be. I do realize things may not work out as imagined most of the time. But sometimes, they turn out even better than imagined!
I also liked that Elizabeth said if you want to do something, just start doing it. Who cares if it is not perfect. Just start. Because finished is better than never starting.
So in hopes to make my world more rich as Elizabeth suggested; and to be more true to my creative side who at one point loved to write here comes the blog. I am just going to write and see what additional doors can be opened.
